Its no secret that the very brief time in the spring when those glorious cherry blossoms bloom is one of my very favorite times of the entire year. Its also really hard to schedule these sessions ahead of time, as the date when they start to bloom varies from year to year. Unlike the fall foliage that stays somewhat consistent from year to year, the spring blossoms really depend on the weather and temperatures. One year they can bloom early and the next year they can bloom really late! Last year, we had a cold winter and a cold spring and the leaves on the trees didn’t start appearing until May!
I always pay attention to the blooming trees in other part of the country to use as a guideline. For instance, this year, the cherry blossoms in Washington, DC have bloomed early. The cherry blossom trees I love to use for pictures are the double cherry blossoms and they usually don’t bloom until the first week of May. I really hope Mother Nature decides to stay consistent with that schedule because if they bloom earlier, I’m worried my schedule will cause me to miss them!
Last year, I had a client reach out to me on Instagram and request a last minute cherry blossom session. I was so happy when we were able to make it happen! We got some incredible images with some of my favorite trees. We few weeks later, we met up again, as we ran out of light at our first session (babies and their need for food and sleep also played into it.) By then, the cherry blossoms had gone, so we picked a location with beautiful greenery and flowers. We kept all the outfits the same, so their would be consistency and it wouldn’t look like two different sessions. The only real difference was it was really warm at our second session! I can’t wait for the spring blossoms and warm weather!
Peanut and Pip Photography is a Long Island based, natural-light, on-location photographer. We also love to travel and service all of New York City and the tri-sate area. Our style is classic and timeless, with a bit of whimsy. Our goal is to preserve this moment in time. We strive to capture the magic and wonder of childhood, the dreams of teens and seniors and the love between families with beautiful, breathtaking and timeless portraits. Every session is customized to you and your family. My works stands out because it is a collaborative effort between my clients and me. I find a way to integrate both of our visions. I often joke that I have crazy ideas, but my clients always trust my vision because they know they will get something unique in the end. I don’t see the world the way everyone else does and that is reflected in the art I create. My ability to create on the spur of the monument is part of my magic. While I always have my go-to locations, I rarely shoot them the same way each time I go there. I get bored of the same things very easily and no two sessions are ever the same, even when shot at the same locations.
