I’ve known Haley’s mom for about 20 years. We used to work together, in what feels like a different lifetime ago. Our husbands became really close friends as well and one point even partnered together in a consulting firm. So its safe to say I know Haley very well, as I’ve known her before she was even born. I still remember the day her mom told me she was pregnant and couldn’t have wine with dinner that night! Haley has always been one of the most beautiful girls. When I was first starting out as a photographer, Haley was about 7 or 8 and I was very pregnant with The Pip. We did a photoshoot for fun. I think we shot for about 5 hours in blistering August heat and at one point I was swarmed by about a million mosquitos! Being pregnant, I wouldn’t use bug spray. I was crazy! But Haley was a complete trooper, never complaining and giving me the most amazing images, over and over. A few years later, I had this idea for a styled session and Haley and one of her friends were my models. I loved those images too! Haley really understands how to model. Some girls are just naturals and Haley is one of them.
So when her mom reached out saying she really wanted a session, of course I was thrilled. Haley has become an accomplished young lady and at 14, she’s changed a lot since our last session. Mom got a gorgeous dress for and left rest up to me. Unfortunately, she couldn’t be at the session, but her sister, who is adore, was going to accompany Haley in her place.
I scouted a few incredible locations for us to use. I always describe our session as a little bit of guerrilla-style shooting! I drove the three of us to the locations, which weren’t all that close together, and we kind of jumped in and out of the car getting the shots we needed. One was literally on the side of an extremely busy street and one was in the driveway of an incredibly, amazing house. The homeowner happened to be pulling in and I was able to ask permission to use the house as a backdrop. I never want to trespass on someone’s property and I was beyond grateful she allowed us to use her house as a prop. It was a dreary, overcast evening and we lost light quicker than I hoped, but I was able to squeeze in one last image on a very cool tree and its hands down one of my favorite images I’ve ever created.
I posted a before and after of this image on Instagram and trust me when I tell you, it is worth checking out:
If you are interested in booking a session, contact me firstname.lastname@example.org. I’d to hear about your vision and make it a reality.
Peanut and Pip Photography is a Long Island based, natural-light, on-location photographer. We also love to travel and service all of New York City and the tri-sate area. Our style is classic and timeless, with a bit of whimsy. Our goal is to preserve this moment in time. We strive to capture the magic and wonder of childhood, the dreams of teens and seniors and the love between families with beautiful, breathtaking and timeless portraits. Every session is customized to you and your family. My works stands out because it is a collaborative effort between my clients and me. I find a way to integrate both of our visions. I often joke that I have crazy ideas, but my clients always trust my vision because they know they will get something unique in the end. I don’t see the world the way everyone else does and that is reflected in the art I create. My ability to create on the spur of the monument is part of my magic. While I always have my go-to locations, I rarely shoot them the same way each time I go there. I get bored of the same things very easily and no two sessions are ever the same, even when shot at the same locations.
