I have been following a lot of amazing studio portrait photographers for years. I have always been in awe at both the depth and simplicity of these fine art portraits. But being that I don’t have a studio, its not something I ever really did. I would occasionally take pictures of my girls indoors but its wasn’t something I fully committed to. After I decided to try it for Piper’s 7th Birthday pictures and was really happy with the results, I decided to try a few portfolio building sessions with select models. I was already signed up for a workshop with the incredible Paulina Duczman in London and thought this could give me some practice beforehand.
I asked my friend Christine if her oldest daughter Sadie would model for me. I had taken pictures of her years ago, when I was first switching my business name and branding to Peanut & Pip and both she and I loved it! Sadie was super excited to model for me again and I was thrilled. We set up an afternoon and I pulled a million outfits and had way too many ideas but Sadie was up for it all! She let me style her and do her hair, pose her and she did.not.disappoint. She followed my direction and often just gave me extra!
I know I still have a lot of learn and a long way to go still, and I cannot wait for my workshop next month! In the meantime, I am trying to fit in a few more sessions and clients are really responding to these types of sessions! I really hope I can make a dedicated studio space happen, because shooting in my ridiculously tiny dining room isn’t all that practical!
Enjoy these pictures from Sadie’s Fine Art studio session and let me know how you like them in the comments below!
Peanut and Pip Photography is a Long Island based, natural-light, on-location photographer. We also love to travel and service all of New York City and the tri-sate area. Our style is classic and timeless, with a bit of whimsy. Our goal is to preserve this moment in time. We strive to capture the magic and wonder of childhood, the dreams of teens and seniors and the love between families with beautiful, breathtaking and timeless portraits. Every session is customized to you and your family. My works stands out because it is a collaborative effort between my clients and me. I find a way to integrate both of our visions. I often joke that I have crazy ideas, but my clients always trust my vision because they know they will get something unique in the end. I don’t see the world the way everyone else does and that is reflected in the art I create. My ability to create on the spur of the monument is part of my magic. While I always have my go-to locations, I rarely shoot them the same way each time I go there. I get bored of the same things very easily and no two sessions are ever the same, even when shot at the same locations.
