Sisters in Summer | Long Island Children’s Photographer

I should probably label this post part 1 of 35. I have WAY too many dresses and ideas for my girls this summer. And I’m feeling the stress of not getting them all done and only the second week of July! Eeeek! In between client shoots or whenever the mood strikes me, I take my girls out for shoots. Sometimes they are big and planned and other times its spur of the moment. This night was one of those sort-of-spur of the moment shoots. I had the plan but didn’t tell them. We fed them a light dinner and dressed them, but didn’t really tell them anything. And oddly, they didn’t really ask (but really, they probably really know by know…) I think because we didn’t make a big production about it before hand, they were happier. They are also fed, so that helped. Since I always shoot close to sunset, feeding them before we shoot is now a must (that only took me 5 years to figure out…) I didn’t care that my husband or I didn’t eat! But the worst part of the night was the lack of breeze, which meant every mosquito in creation was out and eating us alive. I think because the girls were dressed in light colors, they left them alone, since they are usually feasted upon as well.

Before it was really officially summer, I took the girls to one of my favorite spots and did a photo shoot with them. Zoe was loving being a model that day and Piper even let me pose her! And it yielded my very favorite picture of them together ever. Piper is a very happy, silly, goofy kid. She’s so full of life but I never seem to really be able to capture that with my camera. But I did that night! I posed them and not only did Piper stay still and not run away like she always does, she smiled. And looked at the camera! It was like a pre-summer miracle!

Want to know a funny thing? They are both wearing size 4 dresses. Granted Piper’s was a tad large and Zoe’s was ever so slightly short, but they fit them. Its so weird how sizing runs all over the place in kid’s clothes. I’ve almost stopped looking at sizes and started being able to eye the garment and know if it will fit them. I knew that Piper’s dress would fit her, if not in the beginning of summer, but at least by the end. And that the opposite would be true of Zoe’s dress. I loved how the dresses wound up fitting them and how they looked together. What’s even funnier is I buy them clothes at different times, forgetting I have a coordinating outfit at home. I guess somewhere in the back of my head, I know, but its amazing how I’m often not aware of what I’ve previously bought since I pick up things here and there along the way.

I love styling not only my girls, but all my sessions. I have amassed quite a wardrobe for my girls and I keep a lot of what they grow out of. If any of my clients ever see an outfit or a dress and it would fit their daughter, I am happy to use it in their session! All you have to do is ask. I wish I could build a small closet in my house for all the dresses I have for photo shoots!
