Saturday, I’m heading to Las Vegas for my first ever WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) trade show and convention. I hadn’t even planned on going, to be honest. I had signed up for the Triple 7 Shootout and somehow made the connection that the amazing Millie Holloman and Shannon Sewell had scheduled it during the convention. So how could I be in Vegas and not go?? Oh and did I mention I had a free registration? No? Well, obviously the stars aligned this year and WPPI, here I come!
I’ve really never traveled alone before and for the entire trip I will be stepping so far out of my comfort zone, its not even funny. My stress level is so high right now! Leaving my baby girl again, not to mention my husband and doggies! At least it will be a slightly shorter trip, but a thoroughly thrilling and exhausting one at that. I signed up for some early morning platform classes and this being Vegas and all, there are lots and lots of parties every night! But a super fun part of the trip will be getting to hang out with my new friend Stacy Connor, whom I met at last month’s Jessica Claire workshop! I really enjoyed talking to Stacy and felt like we hit it off and now we get to hang out again! Plus Stacy has been to WPPI before and it will so awesome to have someone with me to help me navigate this crazy experience!
The 777 Shootout is 7 hours of 7 sets of all stylized kid shoots. I am so excited to see the sets, the sponsors, meet Millie and Shannon and a whole new tribe of photographers! Plus I know I will come away with amazing pictures and oodles of ideas for my clients back home. Doing a workshop, as I recently discovered, is such a cool way to make great photographer friends and learn so so much.
I end my trip with Natalie Norton‘s Breathe workshop. I met Natalie in the summer of 2009 when she was in NY and did a fun little walk-about in Central Park. Natalie is an insanely good photographer and an even better person. She is an inspiration to many, including me. I’m over the moon with excitement to see her again and learn even more.
That’s what my 3 days in Vegas will be all about: learning, learning, learning! I know it will exhausting and overwhelming and I can’t wait!!! So if you are going to WPPI and you see me, stop and introduce yourself. Please! Did I mention how far out of my comfort zone this will be???
