Jessica Claire Workshop

In January, I had the privilege of attending one of Jessica Claire‘s workshops. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know she is a huge inspiration to me. I absolutely love her style. Her photos are always so crisp and clean and natural. As I can attest to, her pictures look pretty much THAT good straight-out-of-the-camera (or SOOC for you photogs out there.) Rob gifted me the workshop as my birthday present, as it was held 5 days before my birthday. We decided to make a little vacation out of it, since neither of us had ever been to Orange County and we hadn’t been on a vacation in 3 years!! We left Zoe for 5 days, which was difficult to do but oh-so-worth it!!! And we had perfect weather to boot!

The best part of the trip was the workshop, getting to meet and learn from Jessica, as well as meeting all the other photographers from around the world! Yes, the world. There were photographers from close by in California such as Los Angeles, but some traveled from Canada, Oklahoma, Colorado, Iowa, Texas, Mexico and Sweden! And two of the photographers found out they both not only live in Carlsbad, CA, but on the same street no less! All the photographers were so warm and kind and I am so honored to call these people friends, as well as colleagues.

Naturally, the best part of the day was going out to shoot a real (not to mention gorgeous) couple, Ashley and Jeff. Jessica took us to an awesome park called Riley Wilderness Park. If we had parks like this on LI, I’d shoot there all the time. The light was incredible (and it wasn’t even that close to sunset!) The backgrounds were equally as amazing as the light. And the subject matters. Ashley totally rocked the vintage dress and Jeff really kept all of us laughing. Jessica was so open and shared her camera setting and tricks. She was so helpful answering so many questions (which I think were all from me. Hope I wasn’t too annoying, Jess!)

Here are my favorite pictures from the shoot. This was the very beginning of the shoot, where we all got warmed up, both behind and in front of the camera. Honestly, Ashley and Jeff are complete naturals:

I only wish we had  views like this on Long Island:

This tree was huge and made for a gorgeous composition:

I love how ethereal this picture appears and the sepia was just equally as powerful to me:

I love that this is Jessica’s actual veil from her wedding:

So sweet:

The top two pictures are the same, but I loved both versions too much not to share:

I almost don’t even have words for this picture:

Once again, I couldn’t decide between the color and sepia or black and white versions of the following sets of pictures:

I was so lucky to hold this stunning bouquet in the ride over to the park. My favorites parts: the dark calla lilies, the succulents and the buttons:

I picked this spot!!!:

Many, many thanks to Jessica, Ashley & Jeff and all the wonderful photographers I met.

Thank you, Cortnee! I use the Canon 5D Mark II and the 50mm f/1.2L lens. The first picture was taken using the 100 f/2.8L lens. Thanks for asking.ReplyCancel
