Engagement Session: Laura & Danny

I had the honor of doing an engagement session for a very special couple, Laura & Danny. I had asked them if I could shoot it, as they are such a fun couple and I knew they would know exactly how to ham it up and play it down. I asked them to pick a location or two (or three) that was totally “them.” We started off the session in Forest Park, in Queens, NY, right down the street from their house. Laura initially chose this location because of the amazing wood carousel they have there, but much to our disappointment, the carousel was still closed due to renovations! So onto plan B! The park offers so many wonderful spots and we quickly headed up to an old mansion. We had lots of fun doing shots all around the exterior and Laura & Danny knew exactly when to play and exactly when to be serious:

Apparently, Danny always ends up making funny or weird faces in pictures, although not on purpose. But Laura is quite patient:

It was somewhat challenging to get shots of them that were not funny, as these two can really crack each other up (as well as the photographer over here!) Sometimes I’d get so caught up, I forgot to take the pictures! The following pictures are Danny showing off his dance moves that he keeps warning Laura he WILL be doing at the wedding:

Laura’s ring is absolutely stunning and just goes to show Danny has impeccable taste (although we knew that already when he chose Laura in the first place!):

We moved onto another park in the area called Juniper Park. Danny suggested this park because it has views of the Manhattan skyline. Unfortunately, it was so hazy we couldn’t really see it. But we got a lot of really great pictures there anyway:

I love that they were not discouraged by a bunch of kids on a jungle gym and saw the opportunity to have some fun:

They completely trusted me and did pretty much whatever I asked them to! When I saw this big hill, I asked them to take off their shoes and take a stroll down for me and they were more than happy to oblige:

The funny thing was the sky to the west towards the city was so overcast and hazy, but the sky to the east was clear and blue:

After Juniper Park, they took us for a ride though Forest Park Gardens, a private community right in the middle of NYC. It provided so many wonderful locations for pictures. Danny said he always thought this arch would make for beautiful pictures, so I had to make sure I proved him right:

They are such a gorgeous couple and when I saw this picture in my camera’s view finder, I got chills:

I am so in LOVE with this picture:

They wanted to show us a wacky house within the Gardens, where the owner placed thousands of fake flowers outside. You can’t even see the house! As soon as I saw it, I knew we had to shoot there:
